Nature reserve Het Schor

The Schor is a transitional area between the Wadden Sea and the mainland. It emerged after the construction of the Afsluitdijk and adjustments to the harbor's dikes.

The vegetation at Het Schor is very diverse, ranging from 'grasses' to salty vegetables such as samphire and sea lavender. During the excursions by the Wadvissergilde, visitors can feel, smell, and taste the area. The plants experience both dry periods and wet periods. Not only due to fresh rain but also from salty seawater.

Many creatures inhabit Het Schor, but the most remarkable are the birds. They find peace and space to live and survive in this area. Additionally, plankton, snails, shrimps, and small fish find their way at Het Schor, and numerous types of insects can be found among the plants.

The environment surrounding Het Schor is remarkable, with the natural splendor of the Wadden Sea on one side and the hilly landscape of old Wieringerland on the other. A landscape to enjoy.
