Gat in de dijk -route - 14KM

This beautiful cycling route starts in the picturesque town of Den Oever and takes you through the enchanting Robbenoord Forest, culminating at Het Gat in de Dijk (The Hole in the Dike). Along the way, you'll pass by scenic landscapes, historic sites, and natural beauty. Het Gat in de Dijk holds a special significance due to the events during World War II when the dike was blown up, causing the Wieringermeer to flood. Today, this area has transformed into a nature reserve called 'De Wielen,' with the remnants of a farmhouse that once stood there. On the old dike, a pathway leads to an observation point where you can enjoy a splendid view of the water, showcasing the foundation of the former farmhouse.
