Willibrord Route - 26.8KM
Walk in the footsteps of Saint Willibrord and embark on an enchanting pilgrimage on the beautiful island of Wieringen. Around the year 700, a small church was built in Stroe, an idyllic hamlet on Wieringen, believed to have been constructed by Saint Willibrord himself. Over time, the wooden church was replaced by a tuff stone building with a gable stone depicting a pig, a symbol of pagan origin. In 2016, the Heidense Kapel (Heathen Chapel) in Stroe was reconstructed, now serving as a resting point for pilgrims to take a break and stamp their pilgrimage booklets. This pilgrimage walk not only offers a unique historical experience but also showcases beautiful landscapes and charming villages that Saint Willibrord once traversed.
